Humanized Interviews

Our clients are unique individuals and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Understanding the lifetime of experiences that has led them to where they are today requires an open and honest dialog; human to human. By empathizing with our clients, we’re able to build a more complete picture of their life which allows us to dig deeper and uncover mitigating circumstances that they might not have otherwise shared, even with their attorney.

Experienced Social Worker

As an experienced social worker, I have specific training and expertise working with individuals that are facing challenging times. Simply following a checklist through an interview will not always produce a complete picture of the circumstances that led the client to their current situation. Drawing from my background, I know when and how to work with clients to get the most complete understanding of their situation, motivations, and any other mitigating factors that might be relevant to their case.

Efficiency

As an attorney, your time is extremely valuable. Working with a mitigation specialist allows you to spend your time focused on the client’s defense while I independently meet with the client, conduct an in depth interview, and write a mitigation report for you. By having an expert with specific training in interviewing handle this aspect of your client’s case results in the best possible outcome, while reducing costs, and saving you time.

Background Review

Background Review

Prior to meeting with the client, I review relevant background information that may be available, such as probation reports, discoveries, criminal record, and any previous interviews that the attorney may have conducted.

Investigative Interview

Investigative Interview

After developing a basic understanding of the client’s background, I will visit the client at their detention facility or another location, as may be possible. During this meeting, I conduct an in-depth interview of the client with the goal of understanding their life and the circumstances that have led them to the situation that they are facing. In addition to building a complete profile of the individual, I work to uncover information about their life that they might be reluctant to volunteer, such as incidents of previous sexual abuse, interpersonal violence, or emotional manipulation.

Sentencing Memorandum

Sentencing Memorandum

After completing my background review and comprehensive interview, I prepare a sentencing memorandum for the attorney. This report analyzes the client’s background, highlighting specific information that may be significant and impactful for the attorney to included at the client’s sentencing at their discretion.
